Tamerius is having another go at the House after garnering a disappointing 28% of the vote against incumbent Randy Cunningham in the 1994 election. She and Cunningham are an interesting pair: an ex-Army nurse against an ex-fighter pilot. But in response to all that military might, Tamerius is focusing on family and life-style issues.

DUNCAN HUNTER (R) District 52 (Inland San Diego and Imperial counties)

BORN: May 31, 1948, Riverside EDUCATION: Western State U, B.S.L., 1976, J.D., 1976 FAMILY: Wife, Lynne; two children RELIGION: Baptist MILITARY: Army, 1969-71 OCCUPATION: Lawyer POLITICAL CAREER: U.S. House, 1980- ADDRESS: 9340 Fuerte Drive, No. 302, La Mesa 91941. Tel.: 619-463-3896

A Vietnam veteran with a Bronze Star and 25 helicopter combat assaults on his resume, Hunter still devotes a lot of time to military affairs--as chairman of the House Military Procurement Subcommittee, where he lobbies for more defense dollars. He also has made illegal immigration a priority and is a strong opponent of the "NAFTA Train," a proposal to restore the San Diego and Arizona Railroad, which dips into Mexico and, according to Hunter, would be a magnet for illegal aliens and bandits.

DARITY WESLEY (D) District 52

BORN: Oct. 30, 1942, Washington EDUCATION: California State U at San Diego, B.A., 1979; U of San Diego, J.D., 1983 FAMILY: Husband, Robert RELIGION: NR MILITARY: None OCCUPATION: Information-systems executive; lawyer POLITICAL CAREER: None ADDRESS: 3755 Avocado Boulevard, No. 282, La Mesa 91941. Tel.: 619-670-9462

Wesley prides herself on her "balanced perspective" on the issues. She denounces federal regulation of small business, but supports abortion rights, environmental protection, gun control and continued high levels of federal funding for education, Medicare and Social Security. Unfortunately for Wesley, more than perspective may be required to unseat eight-term conservative Duncan Hunter in this solidly Republican district.
