Though it presents shows year-round, summer is an especially good time to go to Goodspeed Musicals, located in a picture-perfect New England town on the banks of the Connecticut River (picnickers welcome). Operating out of a restored Victorian opera house, the company is devoted to musicals, both old and new classics like Man of La Mancha and Annie had their world premieres here. The current production is a revival of Lerner and Lowe's Camelot, with a revised book by lyricist/librettist Lerner's son, Michael, that tightens the show considerably though it still clocks in at nearly three hours while including numbers often cut from other stagings.
