Goodspeed Musicals, East Haddam, Conn.

Though it presents shows year-round, summer is an especially good time to go to Goodspeed Musicals, located in a picture-perfect New England town on the banks of the Connecticut River (picnickers welcome). Operating out of a restored Victorian opera house, the company is devoted to musicals, both old and new — classics like Man of La Mancha and Annie had their world premieres here. The current production is a revival of Lerner and Lowe's Camelot, with a revised book by lyricist/librettist Lerner's son, Michael, that tightens the show considerably — though it still clocks in at nearly three hours — while including numbers often cut from other stagings.
