Hatmaker
The boys behind Proenza Schouler caused quite a stir when they sent black felt shakos (below) down their spring runway. The plumed equestrian toppers were designed by South African-born milliner Albertus Swanepoel, who is now based in New York City's Washington Heights. His creations have shown up on many a runway, including those of Thakoon, Betsey Johnson and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Hermès luggage
Nothing solidifies the status of a stylish jet-setter like Hermès luggage. Founded as a saddlery in 1837, the company switched focus to more dynamic means of travel, and in addition to saddles, they now sell trunks. The handmade Faubourg Express Suitcases ($3,025 to $4,825) will turn heads en route to any destination.
