I would start the night off with drinks at the Golden Tulip Hotel, tel: (233-21) 213161, a 10-minute drive from the city center. There's a poolside bar with a live band, or you can have some fun betting in the hotel's casino. After that, take a taxi to the Labadi Beach Hotel, tel: (233-21) 772501. You can chill out with friends at the Terrace Bar and sit outside and enjoy the cool breeze. Afterward, head to the northern part of Accra to one of my favorite restaurants, the Redd Lobster, tel: (233-21) 502715. It's at a bit of a distance, but it's worth the long drive to get a good taste of Ghanaian chicken and some of the best seafood around.

To experience a night out, local-style, go straight to Labadi beach. At the Next Door Beach Resort, tel: (233-21) 713961, there's live music on the weekends, and you can catch some traditional song and dance performances. If you want to shoot some pool, Jokers, tel: (233-244) 370752, is a very popular place with students and expatriates. For something more sophisticated, there's La Palm Royal, a beach hotel with a casino, tel: (233-21) 771700. On your return from Labadi, get some fast food at Papaye, tel: (233-21) 773754, in Osu, not far from the airport. Their chicken is extremely popular.

I often go for drinks at the Osekan Beach Resort, tel: (233-21) 688800, a short walk from Tudu, near the city center. It's a fantastic place, overlooking James Fort on one side, with a magnificent view of the sea on the other. Next, you can head over to the Novotel, tel: (233-21) 667546, for some drinks and, if it's Friday, live music from local bands. For dinner, I recommend Frankie's, tel: (233-21) 773567, in the Osu district, where you'll find a good number of expatriates and tourists in addition to the many locals. It's a popular joint for getting just about any kind of food, but especially the Western variety. Rice and chicken is my personal choice, but the pizzas there are also delicious. Finish off your evening with a Frankie's ice cream. It's one of the best in Accra.
