Osaka, 1970: An Easterly Affair
For more than 100 years, the World's Fair was held exclusively in Western countries — the U.S. alone played host to the international affair 18 times. In 1970 Japan broke this trend by hosting Asia's first World's Fair in Osaka. The expo was notable for screening the first-ever Imax film as well as demonstrating early mobile-phone and magnetic-levitation technology.
