In the continuity of British life, in the strength of the fabric of its body politic—of so much sterner stuff, despite all buffetings, than that of any other European nation—in its fidelity to the old standards, combined with its curiosity about new horizons—in all these things there is evidence that the feelings of men like Eccles and Lloyd are shared by the great majority of Britons.
