Stone Age Beer

We've heard of epic benders inspired by alcohol. With Chateau Jiahu, you can go on prehistoric ones. This particular ale is based on chemical traces from pottery jars found in Jiahu, a Neolithic village in China's Henan province. In 2005, molecular archaeologist Patrick McGovern revealed that the Chinese sublimated their agricultural staples — rice, honey and fruit — into an intoxicating elixir. McGovern asked Dogfish Head Craft Brewery in Milton, Del., to reinvent the concoction for modern-day beer enthusiasts, and the brewery obliged. It might just be the new age for this Stone Age beer.
