Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall's (@R_Mendenhall) remarks on Twitter following the celebrations of Osama bin Laden's death in May caused a blitz of anger and controversy. (He also wrote that he didn't believe hijacked airplanes were the cause of the World Trade Center collapse.) Mendenhall later deleted his bizarre conspiracy declaration and elaborated on his beliefs against celebrating death, but not before he lost an endorsement deal with athletic-apparel company Champion. "While we respect Mr. Mendenhall's right to express sincere thoughts regarding potentially controversial topics, we no longer believe that Mr. Mendenhall can appropriately represent Champion and we have notified Mr. Mendenhall that we are ending our business relationship," the company said in a statement.
