Former chief executive, Dow Jones
Les Hinton, once head of Murdoch-owned newspaper the Wall Street Journal and its news service, Dow Jones, presided over News International, News Corp.'s British-newspaper division, from 1997 to 2007 when the worst-known instances of phone hacking occurred. On July 15, 2011, Hinton resigned his post at the Wall Street Journal just hours after Rebekah Brooks, his successor at News International, stood down. The British-born Hinton, 67, began working for Murdoch at age 15 and was one of the media mogul's closest advisers.
