Although she had infamously "stolen" her fourth husband, singer Eddie Fisher, from actress Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Taylor's union with Fisher was no match for what would become a tumultuous, longtime love affair with Richard Burton. When Taylor and Burton met on the set of 1963's Cleopatra, they were immediately inseparable, even extending an onscreen kiss beyond the director's "cut" signal. Though both Taylor and Burton were still married to other people at the time, they continued their affair. Just before Taylor and Burton tied the knot in 1964, Fisher told TIME, "I wouldn't stand in the way of this earth-shattering, world-shaking romance for anything in the world."
