Playboy and would-be artist Cary Grant meets lovely, decent Deborah Kerr on a transatlantic cruise. Though engaged to others, they fall in love. As they disembark, they agree to test their new bond by returning to their old loves, then meeting in six months at the top of the Empire State Building. And... well, you'll have to see for yourself if you didn't see director Leo McCarey's 1939 original or the misfired 1994 Warren Beatty remake, both called Love Affair. It's the definitive shipboard-romance movie, with Kerr's sensible radiance, Grant at his most dashing and vulnerable. The last scene makes me teary just to think of it.
