The Red Sox have figured out that the best way of getting through the always competitive AL East is to concentrate on defense this season. But will it be a one-off decision or a more permanent direction for the team? By adding Adrian Beltre, Marco Scutaro and Mike Cameron to a team not exactly lacking in defensive acumen (Kevin Youklis, Jacoby Ellsbury, J.D. Drew), Boston might end up with a scenario in which it grinds out wins playing hard defense. But this may elicit groans from the Fenway Park faithful, who demand to be entertained.
