What's this? A band fronted by John Lennon that's not the Beatles? Formed in 1969, the Plastic Ono Band overlapped Lennon's Fab Four career by only a few months. With a lineup that included Yoko Ono, Eric Clapton, Phil Spector, the Who's Keith Moon, Yes' Alan White, R&B legend Billy Preston and many more, the Plastic Ono Band produced the 1969 anthem "Give Peace a Chance" and helped distinguish Lennon as the Beatle most likely to have a successful solo career. Other hits included "Instant Karma" and "Cold Turkey." And though it seems more like a solo album than something from a fully realized band, the John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band LP might just be the most brilliant piece of work Lennon ever created without help from Paul McCartney.
