Imagine the outcry if they'd made Barbie the pregnant doll. Mattel figured that it could get away with making Barbie's "happily married" friend Madge a mom-to-be rather than the famous blonde, who despite her house, car and improbable proportions can't get Ken to close the deal. But wedlock doesn't make the toy any more appropriate for young girls not to mention that a curled up baby pops out of the doll's stomach when it's opened. Yes, it's the miracle of life, but few parents want to see their child re-create a C-section.
