The claims
Follett, whose main duties include encouraging holidaymakers to visit Britain, claimed just over $38,000 for security after being mugged outside the London house she claims as her second home (Follett's constituency is in Stevenage, just outside the capital). Follett also claimed $807 to have her Chinese needlepoint rug repaired and cleaned. However, that was deemed excessive and she only had $458 of the claim paid.
The justification
"As all of [my claims], bar one, have been accepted and cleared by the House of Commons Fees Office under the rules laid out in the Green Book, I have no further comment to make on them."
The response
Follett appears to have no regrets and told the local newspaper in her constituency, the Welwyn & Hatfield Times, that "I have absolutely no objection to all the receipts I use to validate the claims I make against the allowances I am entitled to as an MP being made public."
