At first, the Pulp Fiction writer and director seems genuinely befuddled by a camera-toting crew that appears out of nowhere in the dead of winter. "What's going on here?" he asks before getting a bit handsy with his new friends' video equipment. What follows is Tarantino and a paparazzo both daring each other to "Hit me!". You half-expect to hear one of them raise the stakes and drop the word double-dare into the conversation.
But Tarantino's too smart to take the bait. After his initial flare-up, he calms down, takes a sip of his coffee and explains rationally that, no, he won't hit the cameraman, even though, yes, he'd like very much to respond with violence and that, were video-recording technology not part of the equation, he'd "whup your ass up and down the street."
End scene.
