After Manila, Frazier would fight only two more times before retiring in 1976. He attempted a brief comeback in 1981 and then left the ring for good, starting a short-lived musical group, Smokin' Joe and the Knockouts, and opening a gym in North Philadelphia. In recent years, he spoke about his longtime rivalry with Ali, suggesting a more amicable relationship actually existed between the two.
