Police Presence
A marcher clashes with police on September 26, 2011. Dozens of others attempted to block an airport runway as they were being forced to board a plane and return to their homeland in Rurrenbaque on September 26, 2011. The marchers, who are protesting the 185-mile long highway construction financed by Brazil, have been marching since August 15. Some of the first violent clashes between police and protesters occurred on September 25; following the incident, President Evo Morales rushed to pass legislation that postponed the construction and the forced removals, instead leaving the matter up to a public vote.
