During an investigation into allegations of phone hacking at News of the World, a British tabloid owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp, it emerged that editors at the paper enjoyed a questionably close relationship with some of the officers at Scotland Yard. On July 17, 2011, the Yard's top officer, Commissioner Paul Stephenson, above, resigned over speculation about his connections to Neil Wallis, a former deputy editor at the paper. Police investigating the scandal found that Stephenson had hired Wallis as a part-time public relations consultant at more than $1600 a day.
