State of the Art
Since its earliest years, the Yard has been known for its innovative use of forensic technologies. This photo shows Robert Churchill, a gunsmith and ballistics expert who worked with Scotland Yard to compile a ballistic report in the case of the murder of an Essex police officer in 1927. The investigation led to the conviction of two men, one of the first times in which ballistic evidence had played pivotal role in obtaining a conviction.
