Crime of the Century
Certainly, the most notorious of Scotland Yard's early cases remains unsolved to this day. Between 1888 and 1891, a person (or persons) calling themselves Jack the Ripper claimed the lives of at least five women in London's East End. Though the Yard used its best officers and technology to solve the case, no one was ever apprehended for the killings. The above illustration, published in 1891, depicts the discovery of one of the Ripper's purported victims.
