Queen Mary, wife of King George V, commissioned royal jewelers Garrard's to create this tiara in 1913. Its 19 openwork diamond frames each feature a large drop-shaped pearl hanging from a lovers'-knot bow. Queen Mary bequeathed the tiara to her granddaughter Queen Elizabeth, who in turn gave it to Princess Diana as a wedding present in 1981. Following her divorce from Prince Charles in 1996, Diana returned it to the Queen. By April 19, 2011 — the week before the royal wedding — British betting agencies were convinced that Kate Middleton would wear this tiara down the aisle, listing it as a 5:2 favorite.
