Twenty-two-year-old Jared Lee Loughner opened fire at a community event in a Tucson, Arizona Safeway supermarket parking lot on January 8, killing six and wounding 14. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was gravely wounded in the rampage, which marks the first time a sitting member of Congress was the target of an assassination attempt since Rep. Leo Ryan was killed in 1978 as part of the Jonestown Massacre.
