The tragedy of CB&T is made worse by the fact that the bank is far from alone. CB&T was the 32nd bank to fail in Georgia since the start of the financial crisis in 2008 and one of 132 to fail nationwide in 2010 so far. While the nation's big banks have pretty much stabilized, its 7,500 small banks are just now entering their moment of greatest danger: in addition to the dozens that are expected to fail by the end of the year, the FDIC says 829 banks, most of them small ones, are at risk of failure.
