On the brink of one of the largest victories ever recorded for a Democratic candidate for governor, FDR stops to talk with a voter after casting his ballot in the 1930 New York gubernatorial elections. First elected in 1928, Roosevelt campaigned to fight the Depression in New York with tax relief for farmers, low-cost public utilities and the country's first state relief agency, which would secure him national attention as a possible contender for president.
