The 40-by-40-ft. hole ripped in the hull of the USS Cole after a suicide bombing mission in Aden, Yemen, was reportedly the work of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad. The organization had been linked to the 1993 World Trade Center bombing in New York City and maintained close ties with Saudi terrorist Osama Bin Laden, already under indictment in the U.S. for the 1998 bombing of two U.S. embassies in Africa.
