Inside a Romanian Drug House

During better economic times, The Romanian Association Against AIDS
(ARAS) supplied addicts with up to 350 needles per week. But as
international donors have pulled out of the country, the organization
has reduced its rations to just 10 syringes per user. Now Marian and
his friends must share used needles. He knows that many people in his
building have HIV or hepatitis C, so he makes his guests swear on their
kids' lives that they are clean before he injects. More than 1 in 10
intravenous drug users (IDUs) say they passed their needle on to someone else at their latest injection. If no one else is around, some addicts will use needles they find on the streets.
