In 1983 Jobs invited PepsiCo President John Sculley (above, center) to join him and Wozniak at the helm of Apple. The partnership soon soured, as an industry-wide sales slump forced layoffs and a re-examination of marketing and technical strategies. By 1985, Jobs was removed from the company he had helped found.
