Bob Dylan's life is portrayed in six non-linear segments by an all-star cast that includes Heath Ledger, Richard Gere, Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale, Ben Wishaw and Marcus Carl Franklin. According to director Todd Haynes, the idea behind the film is based on "Dylan's life of change and constant disappearances and constant transformations (that) make you yearn to hold him, and to nail him down". Cate Blanchett, who plays Dylan during the period 1965-1966, was repeatedly recognized for her performance and won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress.
