Tora! Tora! Tora!, 1970
A joint American-Japanese project — Akira Kurosawa originally directed the Japanese half, but quit over disputes with studio 20th Century Fox — the film focuses on the days leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor. (The title is the code-word uttered by Japanese pilots during the raid attack.) The infamous day is recreated with a fair amount of accuracy and in spectacular fashion; the film went on to win an Oscar for Special Effects, although it probably suffered in other categories from being released in the same year as Patton.
