Guineans fleeing the violence in the Ivory Coast in 1993 arrive home safely. 1993 was a significant year in Guinea's history: The first elections since independence were held but the results were disputed. President Lansana Conté came under criticism for the country's economy and his heavy-handed approach to political opposition. He died late last year.
