Portraits from the UN General Assembly
Kevin Rudd, Prime Minister of Australia
"For me, as an Australian, this was rather special. Rudd is the first left-leaning politician to lead Australia in fifteen years and he's rather unusual for that, he's an intellectual, he speaks Mandarin and Australians tend to vote for someone who drinks beer and plays sports. Another reason I was excited is that my father works in aboriginal affairs and one of the first things that Rudd did upon ascending to power was pushing a national apology to the Aboriginal people through the Parliament, which is something that had never happened before."
