After his release, Solzhenitsyn was forced to spend three years in internal exile. He ultimately settled in Ryazan, where he taught physics and astronomy at a high school. During this time, he continued to create works about his experiences in the gulags, including A Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, which was published in the prestigious journal Novyi Mir.
