Paramount Pictures / Everett Collection
Director
Redford's desire to work behind the lens came to fruition in 1980, when he directed his first film, Ordinary People, a story about an upper-middle class family coming to terms with loss of a child. Starring Mary Tyler Moore, (above, with Redford on set) Donald Sutherland and Timothy Hutton, the film won four Oscars, including one for Redford's directing and another for Best Picture.
