An amalgam of music and theatrics, Dr. John fused his Creole roots with R&B, funk and psychedelic rock, while adding a dash of voodoo mysticism for flavor. His 1968 debut album Gris-Gris would go on to rank 143rd on Rolling Stone's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
