Charging the Masses
Although the Tesla Roadster's price tag comes in at around $100,000, the electric car company's automotive aspirations are not limited to just the luxury market. Tesla's long-term strategy is to use the revenue generated from the Roadsters to finance the development of affordable, mass-market, electric vehicles. To this end, the company plans to release the four-door Model S (shown driven by Musk above) in 2012 for about $50,000.
