Precedents and Presidents
In 2010, Sirleaf signed Liberia's Freedom of Information Bill, the first of its kind on the continent of Africa, and was praised by the press for doing so. Though she had promised a "zero tolerance" policy regarding corruption in her government, it remained widespread; on November 3, 2010, she dismissed her entire cabinet from office, noting that it would give a "clean slate" for the last year of her presidential term. In this photograph, she sits with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office in Washington, D.C., on May 27, 2010.
