The Wizard of Oz

Why is the Wiz on this list? Because because because because becaaaause ... sorry, we couldn't resist. Granted, the Wonderful Wizard isn't that wonderful. Allegedly the powerful ruler of the Emerald City — with the power to send Dorothy home, give the Scarecrow a brain, outfit the Tin Man with a heart and provide the Cowardly Lion some courage — he is actually a fraud, exposed when trusty Toto pulls back a curtain and finds the Wizard pushing buttons and pulling levers to produce pyrotechnics. Nonetheless, The Wizard of Oz — based on L. Frank Baum's 1900 children's book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz — is reportedly the most-watched film in history. So this Wizard gets points, at the very least, for market penetration.
