As well-wishers sent gifts and cards to Barbaro's stall at the University of Pennsylvania's veterinary hospital, his doctors cautioned that even though their famous patient continued to improve after a life-saving operation for a fractured ankle, the Kentucky Derby champion would not be out of danger for several more weeks.
