In the southern Gaza town of Rafah, supporters of Palestine's secular Fatah party protested against the new militia created by the Hamas-led government. Tension escalated between the rival security forces as Fatah officials hinted that they believed the Islamic Hamas party was behind the attempts this month to assassinate two allies of Palestinian President and Fatah co-founder Mahmoud Abbas.
