Tell Balata
The site at Tell Balata, near the West Bank city of Nablus, is possibly what's left of the ruins of Shechem, a prominent town in Biblical scripture and one of the main cities of the ancient Samaritans. Excavations since its unearthing over a century ago have been hampered by warfare and the current turmoil underlying the moribund Mideast peace process.
