Hoping to cash in on the success of Top Gun, Bruckheimer and Simpson signed Tom Cruise again, this time to star in a NASCAR drama called Days of Thunder. The film did not do as well as hoped, unfortunately, leading Bruckheimer and Simpson to depart Paramount and regroup.
