Verolme runs his main yard from an office that is like the bridge of a ship, with a balcony and windows from which he can follow every activity. He has his home near another of his yards so that he can watch the work through his binoculars and telephone complaints. Verolme cares little for money, lets his wife Anneke take care of all personal expenses. Says he: "I ask my wife for a bit of money to go to my barber, that is all." Verolme's wife is a smart, pretty woman 17 years his junior, who was a secretary at Stork before he married her. Now he has a male secretary.
