By now this new, journalistic type of movie is solidly established and is distinctly recognizable from all other types. If still better movies are going to be made in the U.S., as a habit rather than a rare miracle of fighting luck (e.g., Treasure of Sierra Madre), they will probably be made by extendingand transcendingthis journalistic technique. Meanwhile, Northside, et al. are a good answer to those who generalize too glibly about the superiority of European movies.
