Ambassadors & Miss Europe
Two ambassadors of Great Powers to the Court of St. James's could not quite manage to remain aloof and silent last week as preparations got under way at historic Hastings to choose a new "Miss Europe."
All over the London papers was a beauteous Fraulein by the name of Emma Kant. Her claim upon German Ambassador Leopold von Hoesch is that she is not only "Miss Germany" but also the grandniece of that gloomy Teuton, Philosopher Immanuel Kant. Would not the German Ambassador consent to be one of the judges?
Before Ambassador von Hoesch replied. the Soviet envoy, Comrade Ivan Maisky, was heard from. He denounced "Miss Russia." "She is no true woman of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic!" cried excitable Ambassador Maisky. "This so-called 'Miss Russia' is not a Bolshevik woman in any sense but a White Russian!"
Undeniably the grandniece of Immanuel Kant, Miss Germany nonetheless was officially rebuffed by Ambassador von Hoesch. "She is not of pure Aryan blood," he announced.* "Moreover the regime of Realmleader Hitler is strongly antagonistic to this whole proceeding of choosing a 'Miss Europe.'"
*No Jew but an undisputed "Aryan" was Immanuel Kant.
