Josef Albers, Homages to the Square

The challenge for Hèrmes in translating Albers' designs onto their silk carrés (squares) was perfecting the artist's original hues. To create the pieces, Hèrmes used a unique edge-to-edge frame-printing technique, in which the colored areas touch but do not overlap. This allows the colors to remain distinct and even, while visually appearing almost multidimensional on the silk scarves.
