Shot in a low-income Nashville neighborhood, Harmony Korine's short film "Act da Fool" served to preface Proenza Shouler's 2011 Spring Collection. The duo behind the womenswear brand, Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, said they were inspired by Korine's 1995 short film Kids and wanted to advertise their clothing in an equally visually provocative way. When asked how much the clothes were intended to play a "character" in the film, Korine said, "In the same way Groucho Marx's moustache plays a role in his face."
