One can almost imagine the swirly stomach pangs Sarah Burton must have felt when she realized she would be designing the bridal dress for the wedding of the century (so far). She had to steer between the Charybdis of being too conservative and old-fashioned for a modern bride and the Scylla of going overboard artistically, in an event that would be scrutinized for years to come. She had to make Kate Middleton happy, the royal family happy and the bazillions of viewers happy. Plus, she had to keep it secret. And with that dress, reminiscent of the wedding gown of a former princess Grace Kelly 55 years before, she nailed it.
