Kim Kardashian Gets Married
Even before it went south, it was the biggest nonevent of the year. After a whirlwind six-month courtship, reality-TV star Kim Kardashian and New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries tied the knot in a reported $10 million wedding, captured in a two-part E! special, "Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event." And then, after just 72 days, Kardashian filed for divorce. Shouldn't we have seen it coming? Before the wedding, she argued with her mother Kris Jenner about changing her last name to Humphries (Jenner: "You are incorporated — Kim Kardashian Inc."). Kardashian and Humphries did pretty well by each other — the couple made a reported $18 million by selling the broadcast rights and photos of their nuptials — but now must suffer the Internet's scorn. After the divorce announcement, the running joke on Twitter was to name things longer than Kardashian's marriage, like the life span of sea monkeys (730 days) or the time that "Macarena" spent at the top of the charts (98 days).
